First, Elevated Gardener is a no fuss approach to gardening. I want
to break down the barriers that keep people from gardening. There are many
wonderful websites out there that go into great detail about the scientific
ways to garden. However, I have found those to be a bit overwhelming at times
when I just want to have fun and get dirty.
Second, Steamboat Springs is 6,732 feet above sea level. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the last day of spring frost is predicted to be June 27 and the first fall frost date is August 30. That means that for 63 days out of the year, we can grow outside.
I don’t know about you, but my little heart needs more than
2 months out of the year to play in dirt and sing to plants. Plants are my
stress release. Many a time Kyle has shewed me into the garden after coming
home from work grumpy. I emerge an hour later with mud prints on my shorts,
scratches on my arms and a glowing smile. I hope this blog and inspire you to create
your happy place as well!
I started this blog to help the everyday person enjoy
gardening. I will be doing tutorials on
how to start a garden, giving tips on what grows well on decks and outlining
problems and troubleshooting for high altitude gardeners. This blog will not be terribly scientific, trust yourself, trust in dirt and keep watering, you are a gardener already, you just need to plant something.
